Frequently Asked Questions

Look here for answers to some common questions.

What is Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT)?

NMT is a technique that targets irritable spots (Trigger Points) in the muscles with sustained, perpendicular pressure until there is a noticeable release of the fibers.

Do you accept Credit Cards?

We accept all major credit card and FSA cards, and provide itemized, technical receipts for insurance reimbursement purposes. It is my experience that not all insurance companies accept this receipt, but it is worth trying. Some of my clients are fully reimbursed and some are partially reimbursed.

How do I schedule my appointment?

Appointments can be scheduled in three different ways: (a) you can call us; (b) you can email us; or (c) you can use the online scheduling system. The preferred method is the online system, because it gives you full control of the process. You can select a day and time, at your own pace, at any time of day or night. You can also reschedule your appointment, or cancel it if you have to. If you call us and do not get an answer right away, it is because we are assisting a client. Leave us a brief message, and we will respond as soon as possible. Appointments for the same day have to be booked at least 2 hours in advance.

What does NMT treat?

NMT helps to treat a whole host of muscular problems: tension headaches, lower back stiffness, shoulder and rotator cuff problems (frozen shoulder), tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, runner’s knee, plantar fasciitis, shin splints, carpal tunnel, tight hamstrings, and general muscle tightness.

What should I expect from my first session?

NMT session is targeted, and it deals directly with the affected area. There are no oils involved and you can keep your comfortable clothes on. We’ll have an initial evaluation, and the remaining time will be used for therapy. We will also create a treatment plan for you. Most cases are resolved in about 5 sessions, and more severe cases, in 10 sessions. There is a parking space behind the building, and parking is also available in front of the building. Come to the door and we will buzz you in.

How long should my session be?

Most of our clients book 60-minute sessions, because it allows us the proper amount of time to work with each muscle involved in your muscle dysfunction. Some times, depending on the severity of the case, more time may be needed, but we would like to stress the point that consistency is better than quantity, meaning that we prefer to see clients more often with less time, than seeing them more sporadically with longer sessions.

What should I wear during an NMT session?

You can keep your comfortable clothes on. Our clients come in wearing yoga pants, shorts, sweat pants, tank tops, and t-shirts. However, we also see clients in professional attire who come in during lunchtime, or right after work.

How will I feel after my first session?

The vast majority of our clients feel the most relief 24 hours after the first session. They report waking up feeling "lighter" and with more range of motion (ROM). However, some clients feel the relief 48 hours after the first session. The key of success with NMT is based on consistency. Each session capitalizes on the success of the previous one.

How often should I reschedule my NMT sessions?

Sessions are divided into Initial Treatment Phase (ITP) sessions, ranging from 4-5 sessions, once a week, and Maintenance Treatment Phase (MTP) sessions, ranging from 1-2 sessions a month. Once you go through your ITPs, the goal is to place you on MTPs in order to keep the gains acquired up to that point.

How old do I need to be to receive NMT sessions?

We see clients as young as 11, as old as 85, and everybody in between.
